NinjaHobo Guide to WordPress Part 1
Ground Zero: Buying Your Domain & Installing WordPress
Installing WordPress for the first time might appear daunting, but have no fear, the video breaks the process down for you in very simple steps.
Before you know it, you’ll wonder why you ever stressed out about starting your own WordPress website in in the first place.
I strongly recommend you keep your domain registrar and website hosting companies separate.
The reason for this is that I’ve changed hosts many times (as have many of my colleagues) and the last thing you want is for the fate of your domains to rest in the hands of a host you’re parting company with.
For best domain registration, I strongly recommend Dynadot.
They have good prices and once you’ve spent $500 with them, they start giving you reduced rates, which is always helpful.
Now, chances are that your first WordPress website won’t be your last.
For that reason, you should bookmark this page and refer to it for each new website for this checklist:
1. Buy your domain, set nameservers
2. Add your www. & enter your site name and slogan
3. Set your permalinks to postname
4. Install your plugins
5. Choose your WordPress theme
6. Set your navigation bar
Whatever you do, don’t make the mistake I made by paying top-dollar for sub-par service over at WP Engine.
